The Full Figured Word of God

Last week Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) make some weird comments that the media jumped on making him out to be some kind of a imbicile.  Speaking of U.S. owned Guam and the military’s plans of dropping another 80,000 people on that island he said,

“My fear is that the whole Island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize.” Read the story and watch the video here.

What’s going on here?  Basically, our culture has lost its inability to recognize figures of speech when authorities speak.  Johnson later explained himself:

“The subtle humor of this obviously metaphorical reference to a ship capsizing illustrated my concern about the impact of the planned military buildup on this small tropical island”

Did he really need to clarify that? When we react to someone’s words like that is it any wonder we get so confused reading the authority on our faith, the Bible?

Honestly, after watching the video, I’m not too sure he was joking.

Yeah, I wasn’t sure the first couple times either, but I got to give him the benefit of the doubt! My hope is that he’s just a terrible communicator – 90% of comedy is delivery…
